From: Birmingham, England
This short-lived Birmingham ensemble formed in the autumn of 1968 and is best known for including former Move bassist Ace "The Face" Kefford. Other members of the band were Colin "Cozy" Powell (drums) and brothers Pete (guitar) and Dennis Ball (bass). As a side note, both Powell and Pete Ball had previously been members of Young Blood.
In the spring of 1969, the group released their only 45, which includes 'Gravy Booby Jamm' on the B-side. This is a hard driving tune that can't help but remind one of the classic 1967 Jimi Hendrix Experience hit 'Foxy Lady'. Nonetheless, it's a good song in its own right, featuring some standout drumming by the incomparable Powell. It should also be noted that the same exact track was reissued as a B-side again about six months later on another Atlantic 45 under the band-name "Big Bertha Featuring Ace Kefford". As a side note, Big Bertha was the moniker that Powell and the Ball brothers took on fulltime after Kefford left and was first replaced by Peter French (lead vocals) and then former Tintern Abbey frontman Dave MacTavish. Powell of course went on to become a famous and hugely influential drummer, playing with Jeff Beck, Black Sabbath and Rainbow to name a few.
